How to Watch Hulu Japan in Canada (In 2-Steps)

Want to watch Hulu Japan in Canada? Just as with the US Hulu, you are going to need to apply the right steps to make that happen as Hulu is only available around two locations on the planet. The US and Japan.

Why get Hulu Japan? As it offers a ton of also Japanese content, and if you are into anime, Hulu Japan is an incredible platform for that, if you can unblock it.

What needs to happen for that?

  1. You need to make Hulu think you are in Japan.
  2. A Hulu account is needed, and that’s not as simple as signing up due to the measures taken by Hulu.

In this guide, we’ll walk you step by step on how to do it, but the great thing about these steps is that they can be applied for almost all entertainment platforms currently available.

Hulu Japan Only Works If Hulu Thinks You Are in Japan

The key to unblock Hulu Japan is to make it seem like you are in Japan.

Hulu has measures in place to prevent people from watching outside of Japan for rights reasons.

See, Hulu Japan doesn’t have the rights to show all of its content worldwide, and as a result, needs to make efforts to prevent others from watching.

To bypass that issue, you need to either be in Japan or be there virtually.

And to be there virtually, you need a VPN, which is a Virtual Private Network that allows you to be somewhere else, by connecting to the right server.

However, just as is the case with Hulu not working outside of Japan due to Hulu needing to make efforts against people wanting to use it outside of Japan, the same applies to VPN services.

Hulu, just like many other streaming platforms, makes efforts to prevent VPN services from working.

The result? Most VPN services don’t work with Hulu Japan.

And this is where PrivateVPN comes in as a service that doesn’t have thousands of servers like some other services, but that instead focuses on quality and making sure servers can unblock entertainment platforms.

That’s why it works with Hulu Japan, the world’s most popular and a bit less popular streaming services.

But you can see that for yourself when trying out PrivateVPN with a 7-day trial with no need for a card.

Simply sign up by providing an email address and password, and just like that, you are good to go.

Once you have that done, you now need a Hulu Japan account, and that’s not quite as simple.

Getting a Hulu Account

Some streaming services make your life easy when it comes to this. Others, they make it harder.

Hulu? It’s one of the harder platforms to unblock.

See, when unblocking American Hulu in Canada, using the likes of a Revolut card worked.

When it comes to Hulu Japan, that is not an option.

You need a card issued in Japan, which undoubtedly, most people reading this guide don’t have.

The solution? Create a Hulu account by signing up for Hulu on your mobile device.

This method utilizes either Apple’s or Google’s payment systems, allowing you to avoid Hulu’s payment system, thus allowing you to create an account with ease.

However, to do this, you will need to first switch the location of your app store while applying a few other simple things.

Getting a Hulu Japan Account in Canada on Android Devices

  1. Open up PrivateVPN and connect to a Hulu Japan server.
  2. In the Play Store, click on the 3 bars that show on the top left of the screen.
  3. Click on Account, and when you see the Play Store giving you an option to switch to the Japanese store, do it.
  4. Restart the Play Store.

This will allow you to download the Japanese version of the Hulu app.

And when you do that, you will be able to sign up for a Hulu account, even if your card isn’t issued in Japan.

Getting a Hulu Account on Apple Devices

The steps differ when it comes to Apple devices.

In this case, you need to create a new account, acting like you are in Japan, instead of switching the region of your current account.

See, if you were to switch the region of your current account, you would lose everything on that account. That’s why it’s important to create a new account.

To do that, sign out of your iCloud account, followed by creating a new one, and simply create a new account, acting as if you were in Japan.

When you have an account, download the Hulu app, and that’s it.

Of course, you will need to use PrivateVPN while creating an account.

Important to mention: After you sign up for Hulu, you can, of course, sign back into your old account, without any issues.

Japanese Hulu on a TV?

Of course, watching on a big screen always brings the most joy.

The issue is that most smart TVs, unless Android TV-powered, don’t support VPN services.

The same applies to Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.

Gaming consoles? The same applies.

Solutions?

Here are our two favorites:

  1. You can connect your laptop to a TV via an HDMI cable.
  2. Get an Amazon Fire TV, which does support VPN services.

Alternatives?

Install a VPN on a router. Something we don’t recommend as most routers will not be able to run VPN services well.

Our favorite method? Amazon Fire TV.

If you don’t currently have an Amazon Fire TV Stick, when you get one, sign up and select for your location to be in Japan.

Already have one? Here’s what to do to download the Hulu Japan app.

  1. Go to your current Amazon account in the web browser.
  2. Click on Accounts & Lists, followed by going to Manage Your Account and Content.
  3. Change your region to be in Japan.
  4. Now go to your Amazon Fire TV device. Press on Settings and My Account.
  5. Deregister and sign back into your Amazon account.
  6. Download Hulu Japan.

That’s How to Watch Hulu Japan in Canada

Canada? It has great DAZN but lacks a lot on entertainment platforms.

American Hulu isn’t available there, and neither is the BBC iPlayer, ESPN+, and many others, which you can unblock with ease with PrivateVPN and the help of our guides.

How about trying out all the platforms you might like with PrivateVPN’s 7-day free trial with no need for a card?

Disclaimer: While PrivateVPN supports Hulu Japan, it’s not able to guarantee non-stop support 100% of time, due to the nature of services like Hulu having to take measures against VPN services. Thus, no VPN service can provide such guarantees.
